DWB reports on senior & U18 games

A1 vs Chelsea Washout

The A1’s got on the field just long enough for Brandon Stenhouse to drive in 2 runs in the bottom of the first only for the heavens to open for half an hour with a hefty down pour that made the ground (supposedly) unplayable thereafter.

A2 vs Chelsea Washout

It was a similar story for the A2’s who racked up 5 runs in the bottom of the first via a couple extra base hits from Tom Ogilvie & Blake Holding before Thor brought the thunder and rain and ended the game.

C1 vs Dingely 2-3 Loss

C1’s were the lucky ones, depending on how you look at it, being the only Chelt team to get in a full game Saturday afternoon. They were unlucky in other respects though as they went down to a walk off hit at the death. A great performance nonetheless, holding the lead in a tight game against some quality pitching for most of the game.

Booming doubles from Adam Leech and James Radford provided the punch, while Bradley “Poe” Heenan anchored the ship with a commanding pitching performance. Throwing all but the last inning, Poe pitched out of his skin (and out of his pants, which are currently being held together by gum, stickytape and bobby pins) before a hamstring injury drove him from the mound.

C2 vs Dingely Washout

Though I’m sure you are all eager to hear the particulars of the C2 wash out, I can provide no specific details.

Under 18 vs Bonbeach 10-7 Win

Chelt U18’s hosted Bonbeach for round 1 at a very windy and wild Farm Rd. With only 5 of our starting 6 available we had to call on Josh Tribe, Jake Harrowell and Rhys Fairweather to help us out.

On the mound, Luke Ashen started giving up 2 runs over 3 innings followed by Tom Ogilvie and our one pitch closer Rhys. Catching duties were shared between Michael Hill and Shelby Roberts.

Offensively everyone hit the ball with a triple to Luke, Doubles to Luke, Rhys and singles to Frazer, Shelby, Josh Tribe, Jake(2).

A great first up win. Thanks to Ant for umpiring and Michelle O for scoring.

Under 16 vs Pakenham 19-0 Win

Koji Campitelli reports

Chelt ventured up the freeway to Pakenham for round 1 and we were able to walk away with a comfortable 19-0 win. Pretty much the whole team contributed in the batters box, lead by Josh Ashen and Brad Earle with two hits each. They also handled the pitching duties, combining on a no-hit shut out. A good all round team effort, and a nice start to the season.

Under 14 vs Pakenham 15-0 Win

Brad Heenan reports

First game of the year down Pakenham way, would have been better suited for wind surfing as it was blowing a gale!!

Never mind that we handed Ryan Langworthy the ball and he sat down the 7 out of the first 8 batters  including 5 strike outs, great effort in very tough conditions.

We closed the game out with Nathan Yong to come in, after struggling walking the first 2 he found his rythem  throwing down on the ball. retiring the side for a zero.

Those 2 pitchers combined for a no hit shut-out with runners only reaching via walks.

On the batting side of things we recorded 8 hits for the day aswell as 11 walks as their pitchers struggled against a very good Chelt hiting side.

Highlights were Thomas Yuile smashing 2 stand-up doubles for the day.

Dylan Hind and Zac Dunkley with stand up triples, taking advantage of some poor fielding, but great base running and awareness.

And Mason Haimona making his Cheltenham debut going 2-2 for the day with a walk, great stuff!!

Could outline every player as we all recorded hits for the day.

A good start to the year as 15-0 winners, showing opposition Cheltenham U/14 are a team not to be taken lighly.

Thanks to Brent Dunkley for helping with base coaching and my scorer for the morning Masons mum ( sorry i have forgotten your name but did a great job many thanks)

Under 12 vs Pakenham 11-10 Win
