Under 14 vs Frankston  12-8 Win

Ron Carothers Reports

We played a pretty good brand of baseball on the weekend and came out winners for the first time this season against Frankston to win 12-8. With the Grand Final in 2 weeks time we are now preparing for the biggest game of the year – The Victorian Grand Final!

Our pitching and discipline with our at bats were pretty good.

Tom Yuile gave us the best start as he pitched very well for 2 innings. Our offense went to work early after being down 2-0, we came back to score 6 runs when Mason led off with a single, a walk to Ryan, an rbi single by Lachlan, a walk to Thomas and a clutch 3-run triple by Nathan Yong was the big blow of the inning and of the game for us. Frankston never backed down and came back to score 6 runs to go ahead 8-6 but out determination was excellent on the day and we put up 6 runs to go ahead to stay and to win the game.

Nathan was one of the stars with a 3-run triple with 3 rbi’s and scored 2 times. Lachlan Stevens had 2 hits and 2 runs scored and Mason Haimona singled twice and scored a run and 2 stolen bases.

Boys, well played on the weekend. I will see you Saturday at Chelt at 8.30. We will train from 9-12! Please do not be late..we have work to do.

Under 16 vs Dingley 1-2 Loss

Max Barrett Reports

In fitting form the u16’s season came to an end on a beautiful morning down at Chelt where Dingley were too good on the day as we went down 2-1 in a nail biter to say the least.

Josh took the ball for Chelt and took his consistency throughout the year into finals as he was again excellent on the mound, showing great patience and mound presence. The Dingley offence was able to get to him for 2 runs and that was all they needed on the day as our bats could only musket 1 run against a dominant pitching staff. James Radford has been reliable all year out of the bullpen and was able to throw the rest of the game without any further damage.

The u16’s played a very professional ballgame with minimal errors and great team hitting, unfortunately we left a lot of runners on bases and just missed a key extra base hit that would have sent us to the next round. But as cruel as it is, that how baseball goes.

Now that this season is over Koji and myself would like to extend our gratitude towards Andrea Cormick who showed up rain, hail or shine to score for us. It is a very under appreciated skill and without a scorer every week it would be very difficult to manage. We cannot thank you enough

To Steve Earle who was always there to umpire and help set the ground up, it was difficult at times to find people who could lend a hand but Steve never said no and was always enthusiastic.

Sally Hiddlestone was a super hero for Koji and I. Sending emails out left right and centre to find us umpires and letting every kid and parent know who and where we were playing. Sally made our job extremely easy.

A lot of what goes on would not be possible without these types of people at our club. I urge more people to stick their hand up in coming years and help make this club a better place for kids to play.

Under 18 vs Bonbeach 4-5 Loss

Darren Hiddlestone Reports

This week the U18’s hosted Bonbeach in a knockout semi final. As with many games this season we hit the field with 8 players.

Defensively, pitching duties were handled by Shelby Roberts (Starter) and Josh Tribe to close the game. Both guys pitched great and it wasn’t until late in the game that Bonbeach started to find the holes in the outfield. Mike Hill did a great job behind the dish blocking everything and keeping the base-runners honest. Our infield was very tight with Rhys Fairweather at 3rd, Luke Ashen at SS, Frazer Hiddlestone at 2nd and Tom Ogilvie at 1st. Outfield were ever reliable Lucas Confalierni and Josh/Shelby who had a lot of ground to defend.

Offensively we hit the lead early scoring 4 runs in the first, but unfortunately they were to be our only runs for the morning. Tom had 2 hits, Luke, Shelby and Josh each with one hit. Credit must be given to Bonbeach’s pitcher who threw the whole game.

For some of the guys this was their last junior game of baseball. Hopefully they can take something from the season going forward. Thanks to the U16’s who helped us out throughout the season. Without your support we would have had to forfeit plenty of games. Thanks also to Michelle Ogilvie for scoring this season, and Sally for helping to put together a team each week.
