Weekend Results & Match Reports – 17/08/2019

A1 vs Bonbeach 10-1 Win

A2 vs Bonbeach 17-6 Win

Dan Ward-Bourton reports

A strong performance over Bonbeach sees the Magoos in (Equal) 1st place a round out from the finals.

Max Barrett was largely dominant on the hill allowing 3 runs, all unearned, in his 4 innings of work. Tom Ogilvie took over in junk time and allowed 3 runs, all from passed balls.

Chelt scored consistently with 4 runs in the 2nd and 4th inning to take command and then put up a big 8 spot in the 5th to really close the show.

Lots of highlights offensively with big doubles from Max Barrett, Tom Ogilvie, Mack Turley and a breakout performance from Rhys Fairweather who picked up 3 hits and a sac fly in his 4 trips to the plate.

Big game next week against Dandenong to lock in a top two finish.

B2 vs Dandenong 2-3 Loss

C2 vs Pakenham 11-9 Win

Darren Hiddlestone reports

This week we hosted Pakenham down on the sunny lake side field. We were playing to secure 4th spot. Both teams came to play with Pakenham taking an early 7 – 0 lead. We followed plating 7 of our own, followed by 1 more in the next.

With time running out, Pakenham scored another 2 to retake the lead. Pressure baseball followed with the good guys scoring 3 more in the last to get the win. Ruby Dale was given the start for her first outing of the season and pitched well before tiring in the second. Daz came on to pitch the rest of the game.

Offensively we had 7 hits with Heath Dunkley hitting 2 monster home runs. Daz went 3 from 3, DJ 1, and Tom Carlin’s hit giving us the go ahead run. There were some great plays by DJ at 3rd, Graeme at SS, and Coop at 2nd. Blake was solid at 1st. Catching duties were shared between DJ and Damon.

Thanks to Big Dog Ashen for umpiring while on the DL. He brought his own style to the game. Thanks to Brent for scoring.

U18 vs Frankston 0-7 Loss

Darren Hiddlestone reports

This week we travel to Frankston for the last round of the home and away prior to the finals. On the line was a spot in the top 4.

We lost Kellan Hill through the week with a broken hand and elevated Ruby Dale from the U16’s to make up the starting 9. We welcomed back Sean Dunne from the DL and was moving like his old self.

Josh Ashen got the start and pitched well over 4 innings giving up only 1 hit and 1 run. Rhys came in as relief to pitch the last 2 innings.

Offensively we were out hit 5 to 1 with the guys struggling to make contact. We need to swing the bat if we are going to score runs. A couple of fielding errors were enough to allow Frankston to gain momentum and put some runs on the board.

The loss leave us third on the ladder with a home elimination final next week against Bonbeach. Thanks to Rosie for scoring.

U16 vs Mornington 5-5 Draw

Max Barrett reports

This weekends match up against Mornington had a lot on the line as we come to the end of the regular season and make our push for the postseason. We ventured out to Mornington on a crisp morning and ultimately played off for home field advantage in the upcoming finals.

Ryan Langworthy took the ball on this occasion, and he did not disappoint. Ryan held the potent Mornington lineup to only a handful of hits and a couple of runs as he took his start through to the 4th innings where he handed the ball to the always reliable Kyle Yong and was closed out by Mason. The opposition quietened down as we took a 5-2 lead into the final innings, however we were not able to secure the win as the Pirates took full advantage of some untimely lapses in the field and a handful of walks.

Lachie Stevens provided the offensive highlight of the day as he launched a ball about a mile into the air and nearly over the fence, clearing the bases and setting the tone in the early innings. The Chelt u16’s did fail to take advantage of the opposition mistakes however on this day were good enough to scrap a further 2 runs.

Although this game was not the be all and end all, it was a warm up for this coming week as we face the Pirates again for a spot in the preliminary finals. I hope to see some faces down there on Saturday cheering the boys on. This season has been a great success so far, just have some more business to take care of in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned!
