MASTERS 12-0 OVER PAKENHAM
John Ferguson Reports
After a lack lustre game against Bonbeach Red in the last round, the Big Blue machine bounced back with a convincing 12-0 shutout win over the Pakenham Pumas.
Starter, Lance Blackley rolled smoothly through 4 innings. The Big Train delivered a commanding performance collecting 5 strikeouts and restricted the Pumas to 2 scattered hits to pick up the WIN.
In a complete turn around to his mound appearance the previous week where the first batter he faced landed a moon shot onto the Farm Road Milk Bar, Russell “Big Dog” Ashen was perfect in two innings of relief, throwing 16 strikes in 18 pitches to close out the game. Darren Hiddlestone at third base and Joey Tucker short stop flashed the leather on the left side of the infield to stifle any chance the Pumas might of had to mount a comeback.
Cheltenham’s offense was led by Joey Tucker, Adam Leech, Russell Ashen and Steve Flaski who each had multiple hit games. Rookie Steve Flaski delivered the decisive blow in the top of the second when smashed a line drive to the right centre field alley to drive in Rod Hind and Brent Dunkley all the way from first base to make the score 5-0.
