MASTERS DOWN 6-14 TO BONEO BRAVES

John Ferguson Reports

Cheltenham were out played by top team Boneo at Rosebud on Monday. The Boneo offense drove 14 runs from 14 hits and some aggressive base running.

After a lights out, 4 innings performance in the previous round, starter Lance Blackley struggled to find his best stuff but the Big Train pitched solidly to keep the Rustlers in the game until the bottom of the third innings when with the score 2-2, the top end of the Boneo order came up for the second time. Six hits and some untidy defence resulted in 6 runs. The Rustler’s bullpen (Big Dog Ashen, Ben Hall, Joe Tucker and Darren Hiddlestone) were unable to stem the flow of runs but all 4 relief pitchers threw strikes and will benefit from the work as the season progresses.

The Rustlers first 2 runs came in the top of the third when Blackley led off with a single to centre and Tucker beat out an infield single. Adam Leech’s line drive to centre batted in Blackley and Hiddlestone ground ball to the right side plated Tucker.

Leech drew the only walk Boneo threw for the game in the fifth and hits to Hiiddlestone, David Johnson and Rod Hind pushed across 2 runs.

Leading off the sixth innings Blackley slashed a single to left field for his third hit for the game.  Leech and Hiddlestone each belted doubles to plate a further 2 runs.

A defensive highlight was the 3 double plays turned over by the middle infielders.

Hitting: (Total 10)

Joey Tucker, Single, 2 Runs; Adam Leech, Single, Double, BB 2 Runs, 2 RBI; Darren Hiddlestone, Single Double; David Johnson Single, Run, HPB, RBI; Rod Hind, Single: Lance Blackley 3 Singles, Run.
